Las mañanas en mi casa don’t look Pinterest-perfect. They usually start with el cafecito, reheated twice of course, packing lunches, y los niños complaining or asking a million questions before my brain has even fully loaded.
As a Latina mom and a teacher, mornings are a mix of responsibility, love, chaos and grace. Siempre pensé que mi rutina didn’t look polished–but the truth is, real life rarely does.
Aquí está la mera neta de cómo mis mañanas son during the school year–not what they’re supposed to look like.
What My Mornings Used to Look Like
Before I found a rhythm that worked for us, las mañanas se sentían like a race against the clock. I was waking up already stressed, trying to do everything perfectly–perfect lunches, los outfits perfectos y la paciencia pues también perfecta.
Pero ¿la verdad? Nothing ever felt perfect.
I was exhausted before I even stepped into my classroom. Entre ser mamá y ser maestra, I carried this quiet pressure to have it all together…and I rarely felt like I did.
What a Typical School-Day Morning Looks Like Now
These days, my mornings are still busy–pero más intencionales.
They usually look like this:
- Waking up before everyone else (or trying to)
- Making my cafecito (y recalentarlo siempre)
- Packing lunches antes de que despierten los chiquillos
- Quick hugs, quick reminders, and quick prayers
- Y por último a deep breath before walking out the door
Some mornings are smoother than others. Otras mañanas son mas caóticas. But they’re real–and that’s what matters.
What Actually helps Me Survive Mornings
I stopped trying to copy routines that weren’t made for my life.
Esto es lo que ayuda:
- I prepare what I can the night before: Outfits laid out. Bags by the door. Even a small head start hace la diferencia.
- I let go of perfection: Not every lunch is Pinterest-worthy. Not every morning is calm. Y está bien.
- I give myself grace: Some days I’m a great teacher. Otros a great mom. Most days, hago mi mejor esfuerzo en ambos.
- I center myself, even briefly: Sometimes It’s a quiet sip of cafecito. Sometimes it’s a moment in the car before work. Ese pequeño momento matters.
Why Realistic Routines Matter for Moms Like Us
As Latina moms–especially teacher moms or moms with careers–we carry so much
We care deeply. Trabajamos duro. We show up for everyone.
But we don’t talk enough about how heavy mornings can feel, especialmente cuando el mundo espera that we do it all with a smile.
Sharing realistic routines reminds us:
- We’re not failing
- We’re not alone
- We’re allowed to move at our own pace
